Congress Party asks Nasheed to run in Indian election

Congress Party of India has asked ex-President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed who is currently hiding inside the Indian High Commission to run in the Indian general elections.

"We have a shortage of capable candidates the public will accept as a Prime Minister. Rahul Gandhi is young and immature," Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid told AFP.

A top Indian diplomat said India will give asylum to Nasheed and he will later contest in the Indian election. Asked if the Indian public will accept a person who was born outside India as Prime Minister the diplomat said it was no problem.

"Indian public rejected Sonia Gandhi because she is white-skinned and they knew for sure that she was born in another country. Most people will not realize that Nasheed was born in Maldives because he is dark-skinned and looks like an Indian. If Nasheed can fool 350,000 people of Maldives he can fool the whole Indian population too," the diplomat explained.
