Kurendhoo Mahir endorses Dr Munavvar

MALE, 16 March 2008 - Political strategist and businessman Kurendhoo Mahir has endorsed Dr Munavvar in the MDP primary campaign. This endorsement comes as a huge boost for Dr Munavvar.

Mr Mahir is from Kurendhoo Island in Lhaviyani Atoll. He grew up in Endherimaage, the family house of First Lady Nasreena, in Male'. Today Mr Mahir is a respected businessman and an MDP activist. He has given speeches in several MDP meetings.

During the next few days more prominent businessmen and key figures in the society are expected to endorse Dr Munavvar. Among them, Mr Qasim Ibrahim, the Chairman of Villa Group, and Minister of Finance, is expected to back Dr Munavvar. Qasim's close associates like political strategist Kalbe are already working in the Munavvar campaign.

Mr Nazeer, a shareholder of the privately owned Sunland Hotels, which owns multiple resorts in the Maldives, is expected to support Dr Munavvar as well.

Dr Munavvar has close links within the Universal Resorts, which owns resorts in Seychelles and Malaysia in addition to the Maldives.

With the right contacts and connections with important figures in the society, we are confident that we can raise more campaign finance than our rivals and beat our rivals with a huge margin.

Kurendhoo Mahir's endorsement has already shifted the public opinion in favour of Dr Munavvar, as Mr Mahir controls a substantial number of tables in Al Fresco Cafe.

According to an opinion poll carried out by Ministry of Planning and National Development, Dr Munavvar is leading by 51% against his closest rival, Reeko Moosa Manik, the film-actor-turned-politician.

Press release issued by fans of Dr Munavvar with some English polishing done by Naseem.

Hi.Although financial support is imrpotant to run a campaign such as this, I strongly urge candidates not to efectively 'buy out' the votes with the finances you raise. After all, a person's sincerity is questionable when so much focus is on the money side of the issue. (More of the topic of the right choice for presidential candidate is written in my blog www.muizzu.com).Thanks.

I think you guys are doing a great job. I would like to request you to ask munavvar to launch his campaign as soon as possible. I think he is over-confident of winning the nomination. But he should not underestimate the potential of Anni. Anni is campaigning vigorously across the country. He may take a lot of votes from Munavvar's support base. This race is different from the last MDP presidential race in which Zaki did not campaign in Addu, Fuvammulah and G.Dh atoll as strong as Anni is doing right now. The problem with Munavvar is he is always over confident. Thats why he lost the first MDP presidential election to Ibra in the very first congress of MDP. So I would urge Munavvar supporters to request him to launch a systematic campaign as soon as possible.

But Dr Munavvar does not have to campaign like others. A table-to-table campaign has been started. And popular people such as Kurendhoo Mahir are endorsing Dr Munavvar. We will raise more funds through the backing of Qasim and others. Thats why Dr Munavvar is so confident.

I dont think table-to-table campaign is good enough to secure the nomination given that the scale of campaign anni is conducting. You guys need to encourage munavvar to start his campaign and reach the ordinary people i atolls and Male. Quite a few people visit Alfresco, so the table-to-table campaign only in Alfresco wont be enough. Do you know the mentality of Maldivians? They committ to vote for the one who first request them to do so regardless of the candidate's capability. I am telling u this from my experience. So ask munavvar to start a good campaign.

History has proved that table-to-table campaign is effective. Dr Munavvar used this strategy and won when he contested against Ibrahim Hussain Zaki. So now Dr Munavvar is MDP President. Soon he will be MDP candidate for presidential election. And soon he will be the President of Maldives. You can't change the course of history. You can't change destiny. We are expanding to other tables in other cafes too. We are not only campaigning in Al Fresco. We are securing important tables in Seagull and in Redey Kada in harbour too.

Munavvaru should be the last person to vote for the presidency! He is an opportunist-turned-reformist. His management of attorney general's office during his tener proves he is no good administrator. The worst thing he did before he was sacked from gayoom's cabinet was to ask all his staff to sign a sheet that mismanagement of ag office is due to them all. he actually sent this sheet to president's office!

Rick. Before you defame our beloved candidate with such allegations can you prove that Dr Munavvar asked his staff to sign such a paper saying that AG office mismanagement was due to the staff? Can you get any staff of AG office from that time who can come publicly and declare this? We don't entertain false stories.

It is a fact that Munavvar was not very employee-friendly person when he was in AG office. Despite that I heard a lot of his former staff praising him on his intellectual capability and guidence. he is a very practical person and he knows what he is doing. Having knowledge like Hassan Saeed wont be enough you should know how to apply what you know in real situations. munavvar is very good in this according to his staff.I am sure he will be a very good president.
